Australian Open 2005
OK the draw is out and it is very interesting for Vera. She gets a qualifier in the first round. Possible 2nd is Craybas or Douchevina with Zuluaga in
the third. If she gets through those, Kuznetsova is the poss 4th rnd and Sharapova is in her quarter with Mauresmo/Serena as a semi option. Tough
draw, but if she plays well she is more than capable. What do you guys think?

I think the first 2 rounds should be no problem, but then most likely Zuluaga again would be the first real hard opponent. Definitely not an easy
draw, but I hope, that Vera will be able to show her best tennis there and will surprise some experts.

I really hope for Vera that it won't be Michaella Krajicek in the first round. She's getting better every day....
I don't think the first real match of the season tells us how the rest of the year will be. Till now Samatha Stosur is the most succesful player.
Doesn't that tell anything?
Simon, how is the temperature, I heard Dementieva gave up because of the heat.
What I hear is that Australia must be an inferno in this time of the year....
Maybe we can use this one not only for temper but also for temperATURE.
There痴 a somebody I知 longing to see
I hope that she turns out to be

Sacha, it is hot down here. Sydney has been very hot,I was speaking to my brother(he lives in Sydney) and he was saying that it has been a heatwave
the whole week.
Melbourne has been very hot as well though today was a little milder. Long range forecast for next week looks perfect, no rain and not too hot(geez I
feel like the weather man on the news ).
Just looking at the list of qualifiers, Krasnouratskya(sorry about spelling Lina) would be a tough one to get as well. Hopefully Vera will be fine.
I'd also like her to get revenge over Craybas as well as Zuluaga.
Picked up my Camera today guys. It's a Nikon Coolpix 4100. Very flash. Looking forward to getting some good pix of Vera for you all next week.
I tell you what guys, it has certainly become spot the tennis player this week. A lot of them stay in a few of the flash hotels across the road from
where I work. I haven't spotted Vera yet but I'm keeping my eyes opened. I did see Federer yesterday and Sveta today. I wished Roger good
luck and he said thank-you. I said nothing to Sveta .

I hope Vera recovers from that bad loss to Zuluaga and prepares well for the Open. She has to believe in herself that she is better than most of the
Russians.
Best luck Vera
BTW Simon, have fun at the Open and take some good pictures!

Pleased to hear you ignored Kuznetsova simon!! lol......Cant be giving any other Russians our support, that would be wrong!!
Im just pleased that Vera avoided Ana Ivanovic, my god that girl looks good and shes only 17, shes my outisde bet to go far into the tournament, she
could meet Mauresmo in the 3rd round and thats a match i wanna see to see how she does cause i really think she'll push her hard going by how it
took Venus Williams 2 tie-breaks to beat her in Switzerland last year!!! Keep your eyes on her guys!!

I think Ana might have the edge here. But we still need to see how she matures.
In my opinion Mischa Krajicek is not too far behind.
So, most probably we'll know this year who's the better of the two.
Go Vera!!

inexpirienced her opponent is.
Good luck Vera!

Vera has got to do me a huge favour by winning on Monday I am unable to get to the day session because of work commitments. As long as she wins I am
definitely going on Wednesday to watch her play. So c'mon Vera, do me and the rest of the guys here a favour and win. It worries me seeing the
results that Liu posted during qualifiers. Hopefully Vera will be on form. It also worries me seeing those pictures of her crying. They didn't
show those on the replays I saw. This is a real worry. She can't afford to keep on going like this. That only would have helped Zuluaga even more
seeing Vera crying like that. This is a worrying trend that has to stop. It's been said before that her problem is a mental thing. Everyone knows
that her talent is as good as anyone out there. Good Luck on Monday Vera

Vera just won 6:4 6:2.
The statistics donエt look bad, but I hope she can improve her game because I donエt think it would be good enough for the upcoming opponents. But Iエm
glad that she won her first match this year.

I just arrived at my office and watched the last 2 games on the scoreboard. Great to start the day like this

Well she won 6/4 6/2.
A little unconvincing but she got through that was the main thing. Double faults again didn't help. Well at least that means I get to see her on

Vera 6-4, 6-2
I happened to check in the AO website and found Vera was playing. I was able to follow the live scoring from the last game of the 1st set. Vera is
defending 122 points.
Vera won her first set 6-4.
GO BEPA!
2ND SET:
Vera serving, won first game, broke Liu in the 2nd, Liu broke back in the 3rd. On serve, Vera 2-1.
Vera breaks again for the 4th game, fights off a break point and takes the 5th.
Vera 4-1.
Liu wins game #6; Vera wins #7 at love.
Vera 5-2.
Liu serving to stay in the match; Liu takes the first point, Vera takes the next 4 to break and win 6-2.
Vera seemed to pick it up in the 2nd set, after being broken in the 3rd game.
Comparative stats for Vera, 1st set v 2nd:
1st serve %-- 49%, 56%
winning % 1st serve-- 56%, 79%
winning % 2nd serve-- 47%, 36%
12 winners/24 UE, 9 winners/9 UE
3/7 on break pts, 3/3 on break pts
0 aces, 1 ace
40 minutes, 30 minutes.
In the 2nd set, I noticed 2 serves @ 90mph, and 2 @ 93 mph.
Complete stats here:
http://www.ausopen.org/en_AU/scores/stats/day5/2140ms.html
NICE WIN, VERA! KEEP IT UP!
Bovina pulled out of the AO with a foot injury, along with Suarez, Capriati, Henin-Hardenne, and Rubin.
Krasnoroutskaya lost in the 3rd round of quallies.
Linetskaya and Kuznetsova won their 1st round matches, as did Serena. Other Russians in the mix are Chakvetadze, Panova, and Kirilenko, plus all the
others we all know.
At this point, Petrova is up 6-1, 4-1 over Razzano, and Douchevina is losing to Craybas, 6-3, 5-1.

I was watching it from the beginning on the scoreboard and i can say that it was a major struggle for her, especially in the first set.
She was down 2-4 and was very close to losing that set. She really needs to step it up, or she will be out.
Play better Vera and Good luck

Well, really desappointing result today: Vera has just lost 6/3 6/3 against Douchevina...
The match was broadcasted on TV here when Vera was 3/6 3/2 behind... so, I saw her losing 4 straight games...
My Gosh, it seemed to be a complete "off day"... Double faults, unforced errors, lack of agressivity, not fit enough to run across the
court,...
She'll need to recover and improve quickly... If not, the first part of the season will be very desappointing...

A very bad day for our Vera! I didn't get a chance to see the live scoring, but looking at the stats, it appears her game really fell apart in
the 2nd set.
Her new dress does brighten things a bit, as a small consolation.
I hope Vera can spend the next couple weeks recovering, and preparing to defend her title at Memphis. Which I will be going to.
So far, I've been unable to find any tournaments where Vera is listed, other than Memphis. As of tonight, she is not listed for the PPO or the
Open Gaz de France. The Volvo Women's Open and Hyderabad have no listings posted yet.
Memphis begins Feb. 14.
With Henin losing 958 pts, Vera will nonetheless come in at #10, unless Petrova makes it to the semis, or Molik gets to the QF. But I was hoping to
see Vera break back into the Top 10 here.

Sorry, we need her in Memphis.
But it looks like a good lineup otherwise in Antwerp, with Kim returning, and joining her are Myskina, Dementieva, Molik & Sprem. They are all in
my collection.

I cant believe it!! That is just so disappointing in the continuation of a very poor start to the year!! To not even take it to a 3rd set is
desperately poor
She shouldnt be losing matches like those, last year she was so consistant that she only lost to players that were better than her, she really is
gonna have to turn it around quick cause we ddont wanna see her get into a ruck of losing match after match like Dokic and Sprem are experiencing!!
What a terrible first match for simon to see!! I guess he brings her bad luck!! Dont ever go again simon!!
Does anyone else just completely lose interest in tournaments once Vera goes out? I still follow the tournaments, like the Grand Slams, but there just
isnt the same enthusiasm to watch the matches when Vera's gone out!! Im a fan of Ana Ivanovic so i guess i'll just have to follow her
results now!!

How disappointing. Maybe she shouldnエt have changed again to another new outfit. I think the first looked better and she also played better wearing it

Ok, Vera, forget about it and try a second (and better) start into the season.
I also loose interest in a tournament when Vera goes out, Nick.

It is kind of a double feeling for me.
Of course it is very disappointing when Vera is out, but I have more girls to cheer for. I believe I don't have to tell that I'm a Myskina
fan. Did I tell that before? Really?
And of course there are
Alicia Molik
Nathalie Dechy
Tatiana Golovin
Jelena Jankovic
Marta Domachowska
Lubomira Kurhajcova
Michaella Krajicek
Hey is that my team? Yes it is, but I did only select my favourite girls, and they put me in position #86.
By the way, Nick, man be happy, you have Baltacha, she's better than ever! I am fan of her too!

If someone could just watch over me
Vera Zvonareva, quite possibly the biggest risk for people with a weak hart, but she's worth it!

Oh, I forgot to mention Dementieva.
There痴 a somebody I知 longing to see
I hope that she turns out to be
Someone who値l watch over me
I知 a little lamb who痴 lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
If someone could just watch over me
Vera Zvonareva, quite possibly the biggest risk for people with a weak hart, but she's worth it!

I feel that Vera needs to change something. She played very well in the summer last year when she had that nice 3 set match with Serena. She fell
apart at the US Open and can not get back to that level. I am not sure what, but she needs to find new tactics on the court since most of the players
know her game and using her weaknesses. SHe is obviously out of confidence at the moment and needs a good advice.
