Eastbourne

Well its gonna be a horrible week for me this knowing that i should have been there!! :( And now because of other commitments i wont be able to make Wimbldon either!! :( Im so annoyed and irritated that im gonna have to wait another year to see Vera play again!! :(

Oh well, good luck to you anyway this coming week, its gonna be tough as its a much stronger field this year compared to last!! I fear that it will take a fantastic performance for Vera to repeat her semi final from last year!!

I know what you're feeling and what you're going through. I feel exactly the same. A cold comfort for me is the fact that Nadal and Pierce won't play at Rosmalen. So, I wouldn't have seen them anyway. But the fact that I won't meet miss Dementieva makes me really angry.:(

There’s a somebody I’m longing to see
I hope that she turns out to be
Someone who’ll watch over me
I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the wood
I know I could always be good
If someone could just watch over me

Vera Zvonareva, quite possibly the biggest risk for people with a weak hart, but she's worth it!

Hello Guys,

Long time no see. hehe

I can totally relate to you guys in that regard. But my story is even sadder as I haven't had the chance to visit any tournament for the last 3 years. Needless to say I've never seen Vera play (other than on TV of course). So compared to my tragic story you guys have got it pretty good, I think.:D

Anyways, Good luck to you. I'll try to come back more often and hopefully in the mean time Vera's luck gets a little bit better.

Greetings Vera fans :) Here's the draw for Eastbourne. Vera's the fifth seed.

(1) Mauresmo vs. Bye
Pennetta vs. Ivanovic
Asagoe vs. Qualifier
Bartoli vs. (6) Likhovtseva

(4) Myskina vs. Bye
Qualifier vs. Hantuchova
Qualifier vs. Sprem
Vaidisova vs. (5) Zvonareva

(7) Clijsters vs. Jankovic
Martinez vs. Baltacha
Razzano vs. Farina Elia
Bye vs. (3) Molik

(8) Dechy vs. Janes
Sugiyama vs. Frazier
Qualifier vs. Maleeva
Bye vs. (2) Kuznetsova

I don't know what to make of the draw. Her section seems tough. On the other hand, Vaidisova is not yet comfortable with grass; Sprem hasn't hit her groove yet; Hantuchova and Myskina are still inconsistent. :P

Good luck Vera! :)

I see that as a very tough forst round draw!! As much as Vaidisova hasnt played much on grass we all know shes a rising star and if shes playing well then Vera could easily struggle so shes gonna have to play at the top of her game to make sure Nicole cant get into the match!!

I see it the same way: Vera has to show a good performance against Vaidisova to win this match. It´s the third match today.
She also plays in the doubles together with Likhovtseva again.

I´m sorry to hear that you were also not able to go to the Wimbledon tournament, Nick. I really feel for the both of you, Nick and Sacha!

Tough luck Nick. I hope you'd be able to watch Wimbledon next year.

Cheers guys!! Its pretty crappy, i was looking forward to Eastbourne this year!! Nevermind, i wouldnt have been able to get down till Wednesday and with Vera having such a tough 1st round draw, we'll have to see if she makes it through, if she doesnt, then i'll be glad i wasnt going cause it wouldnt have been any fun at all if she was out the tournament by the time i got there!! :D

Good luck today Vera!!

Vera won: 6-3, 6-2. She recovered from a 1-3 deficit in the first set and finished the set with an ace at 6-3. She led 4-0 in the second set but let Nicole inch 4-2 then finished the match at 6-2. My scoreboard broke down but before doing so, I recall that Vera had 6 aces and 4 DFs. I think her DFs evetually caught up.

Great game Vera! :D

I'm sorry to hear you missed out on going to Eastbourne, Nick. Still, if Bepa's still in the tournament by Thursday, those in the UK might be able to watch her on BBC television - particularly those of us who can access the BBC Interactive service which offers extended coverage from Thursday.

I had a choice between going to Birmingham and going to Eastbourne this year. When Maria Sharapova made a late entry into Birmingham, it was an easy choice. I would have loved to watch Bepa play in person for the first time, but at Birmingham I got to see not only Maria and Daniela Hantuchová, but so many other nice players including Tatiana Golovin, Maria Kirilenko and Anna Chakvetadze - whereas Eastbourne seems bound to be dominated by muscular players such as Amélie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Congratulations to Bepa on beating Nicole Vaidišová. I was impressed with what I saw of Vaidišová at Birmingham, so Bepa did well to get past such a dangerous opponent 6-3 6-2 (winning nine games in a row between 1-3 and 6-3 4-0). It's very windy at Eastbourne, particularly today - Bepa is a very adaptable player, and a much more experienced one than Vaidišová.

That's a fine start for Vera. Really hope she can do well this week and at Wimbledon. Hopefully this can encourage her. Good luck in your next match Vera.

I followed the beginning of the match on the live scoreboard until 1:3 in the first set, then I had an appointment and I feared that it could go bad for Vera. But it seems that from that point on she really took control of the match. Great performance to win 9 games in a row. So it looks like Sprem will be her next opponent.
Today she will play her first round doubles match here together with Likhovtseva against Mauresmo/Dechy.

Great win in the doubles against Mauresmo/Dechy!
I´m a bit surprised about Vinci as her next opponent. I hope Vera will be able to pull out the same performance as she did against Vaidisova.

Vera lost to Vinci: 2-6, 6(5)-7. It's frustrating. Vera played great the other day but it seems she only turned it up too late here in the 2nd set. Her part of the draw was open until the semis. Oh well... :(

Go Vera! Good luck in the doubles! :)

Well we already know that when theres a chance for Vera to go far, she blows her chance!! Shes done it so many times now that today really doesnt surpirse me one bit!! Dreadful preparation for Wimbledon!! :(

She is easily the most infuriating player on tour, to play as well as she did just one day earlier and then to put out tht display a day later just totally baffles me!! :(

Then you also have to consider the loss in ranking points as well!! Then what makes it worse for a personal point of view is that she played her match out on court number 2 and if youve been to Eastbourne you'll know that that court is really upclose and personal so i would have got to be really close and might have been able to give her some support which may have helped and also get some great pics so that annoys me some what!

bad loss, but Vera wasn´t the only seeded player who lost yesterday: Mauresmo lost to Douchevina, so the draw would have opened even wider for Vera. I just hope she can play a good doubles match today and take at least a little revenge on Vinci who´s also one of her opponents today and that she can get some good net practise there for Wimbledon.

That must be really hard, Nick, cause that makes it even worse for you.:(

Oh Nick, you should have been there mate! Your presence and moral support could have spelled the difference during the crucial tie break moment.

Following Vera's match on line was really exhausting. She showed the propensity to lose game points and break points. Wild swings, if you'd ask me. Her stats are bad when compared to the demolition job she made against Vaidisova. :(

As Robert said, it's payback time in the doubles. Win it Vera and Lena! :D

Yeah, im very frustrated!! I know the very outside courts dont get alot of attention either so i would have been able to get a really good spot close to her, im kinda worried though that she'd get in trouble for me coaching her!! lol.....I wouldnt be able to keep my mouth shut, i'd wanna offer advice and alsorts and generally try to encourage her but it seems you cant really do that cause the player just gets warnings and with Vera's fiery temperament i might end up on the end of abuse from her!! :D

What does that take from some random person yelling coaching-advice at a player they dislike, deliberately to get code-violations against that player?

I guess they probably take into consideration how the coaching is said, you can usually tell if its said in a sarcastic way or in a supporting way i guess!!

Now Myskina´s also out already and the one she lost against is .... Vinci! So it seems that Vera lost to a - even if ranked much behind her - but rather good grass-court-player.

You have to say though that Myskina is bang out of form so most people seem to be beating her at the moment, i dont think its a fair opponent to judge how good Vinci is, on!!

Go Vera and Lena! :)
