Tough first round, being that Schett always does well in Toronto and had a good win over Frazier last week.

Vera is also playing doubles!
Here's her section of the draw :
5- Elena Dementieva (RUS) / Lina Krasnoroutskaya (RUS) vs. WC- Marie-Eve Pelletier (CAN) / Diana Srebrovic (CAN)
Janet Lee (TPE) / Wynne Prakusya (INA) vs. Julia Vakulenko (UKR) / Mashona Washington (USA)
Nadia Petrova (RUS) / Mary Pierce (FRA) vs. Anastasia Myskina (RUS) / Vera Zvonareva (RUS)
2- Cara Black (ZIM) / Elena Likhovtseva (RUS) - bye
Pretty bad draw, LOL..

Hey have faith in Vera,Dokic is getting beaten by everyone at the moment,i dont think there must be a person on as bad form as her right now and
hantuchova isnt that much better off than dokic, she would have fallen alot further in the rankings if the girls below her were clocking up a few more
ranking points!
I dont see any anyone apart from Henin and Clijsters as a serious threat to Vera,it will just come down to how Vera's fitness is,she hasnt played
many matches in really since Wimbledon and the ones she has played have been of little importance,we'll just see now what she can do and if shes
up for the test!

Forget doubles for now,Vera needs the ranking points for singles, though its good to see shes gone back up to 16th in the world, a good run here and
she'll be closing in on the top 10 which is quite clearly where she should be as there certainly arent any players out the top 10 that are better
than her!

Vera Zvonareva defeated Barbara Schett
6/1 7/6.
From what I heard it was a good match. In the second set things got ugly for Vera but in the end she came out victorious.
Good Luck Vera!

In accordance with nick's opinion I believe that neither Dokic nor Daniela Hantuchova pose a real threat to Vera.
Vera is much more of a player than them.

Now Vera Zvonareva will most likely play against canadian player Marie Eve Pelletier.
That is unless Pelletier who is ranked 144 loses against qualifier Mashona Washington who is ranked 150 and is from the united states.
In any case, good luck for Vera.

Yeah, I think next round should not be a problem for Vera, but then it will be more difficult. Even though Docic had been losing badly recently, she
is playing Widjaja, a tough opponent. If i can recall, Vera lost to Widjaja in the beginning of the year. Still, Vera is a favorite to get to semis at
least.
Good Luck Vera!

I predict the following score for the next round 6/1 6/1.
But as Vlad says, it will get tougher and tougher as the tournament advances.

WTA tour Rankings:
1 (2) CLIJSTERS, KIM
2 (1) WILLIAMS, SERENA
3 (3) HENIN-HARDENNE, JUSTINE
4 (4) DAVENPORT, LINDSAY
5 (5) WILLIAMS, VENUS
6 (6) MAURESMO, AMELIE
7 (7) CAPRIATI, JENNIFER
8 (9) HANTUCHOVA, DANIELA
9 (8) RUBIN, CHANDA
10 (10) MYSKINA, ANASTASIA
11 (11) MALEEVA, MAGDALENA
12 (13) MARTINEZ, CONCHITA
13 (12) SUGIYAMA, AI
14 (14) COETZER, AMANDA
15 (16) DEMENTIEVA, ELENA
16 (18) ZVONAREVA, VERA
Porsche Race to the Championships:
1 KIM CLIJSTERS 4671.00 14
2 JUSTINE HENIN-HARDENNE 4134.00 12
3 SERENA WILLIAMS 3916.00 7
4 LINDSAY DAVENPORT 2282.00 13
5 VENUS WILLIAMS 2211.00 6
6 JENNIFER CAPRIATI 1706.00 13
7 CHANDA RUBIN 1638.00 13
8 AMELIE MAURESMO 1607.00 9
9 AI SUGIYAMA 1356.00 17
10 VERA ZVONAREVA 1288.00 15
How It Works
Unlike the WTA Tour rankings (in which Vera is 16), which are based on a rolling, 52-week system – using a player’s best 17 results for singles and 11
for doubles over the past 12 months – the Porsche Race to the Championships (In which Vera Zvonareva is #10) starts at the beginning of the season,
with all players on zero points.
Points earned from all WTA Tour events played (round and quality points) are added to produce the separate weekly Singles and Doubles Team
standings.
I hope this clarifies things a little.
On a different note, Masha seems to know Vera.

there and against them she has to play and fight. i can tell that she works hard because of the practices she has. anyway peace out my people and good
luck vera!!!

Guys.don't you think Vera was a little nervous in the second set of her 1st round match?but she played good in her match.schett couldn't do
anything...
I like Jelena Dokic and I think she's getting better .I saw her playing against Widjaja and she was good.just she did a lot of unforced errors
but in the other hand she was good in winners...
Anyways,Go Vera!

I honestly cant see how Vera could lose to Dokic,Dokic is on her way down the rankings at an alarming rate and is no way the player that she was when
she first came on to the scene! I guess you could say its cause of all the problems shes had in her personal life cause she just hasnt developed like
the rest of the players,i see her as another Anna Kournikova, maybe just not quite so drastic,if she beats Vera i will be extremely surprised and youd
have to say that Vera would be very disappointed, its a match she should certainly be favourite for and should certainly win!

Well, Ian let me ask you a question... Do you see future or Vera read you prediction about the score before her match and therefore aimed at that
score? Anyways great job on predicting, it is in fact 6-1,6-1 thrashing of Washington. Is she confident or what?
Great job VERA, keep winning!

I agree that Docic might be tough and even though she did well in Toronto last year, she had been losing most of her matches this year. I think Docic
has too many problems with her personal life and therefore too distracted to play at a high level. Kournikova is a different case. First of all she
had been injured and it looks pretty serious. Even though she always had the game but there was an enormous pressure on her to play well. Apparently
she could not handle it well

Im not really having a go at kournikova,i used to be a big fan of hers about 2 years ago before she decided that modelling and going out partying
every night was more important than her tennis career, its a shame cause she had huge potential back in 97 when she first came on the tennis scene, she
wasnt just a pretty face, she could play tennis and she was good!
Womens tennis has alot to thank kournikova for cause she was really the one that put it on the map and made it popular!

Wow, you people keep this forum busy!.
Vlad: I predicted that winning score of Vera based on her performance against low ranked players like washington. But to be honest I was the first to
be surprised when I read in this forum that Vera had won with that score.
I think Vera Zvonareva is growing as a player and Yes, I think she's more confident now.
About Kournikova: I've got nothing against her. She had the potential to be a top 5 player but maybe she wanted something different. Lately she
has had to deal with injuries and I think she's pretty much out of the tennis picture for now.
About Jelena Dokic: She was a troubled teenager with an abusive father. I don't think she's capable to get any farther than what she has
already accomplished.
Good luck for Vera!

Unfortunately, Vera lost her doubles match today.
Nadia Petrova/Mary Pierce (RUS/FRA) d Anastasia Myskina/Vera Zvonareva (RUS/RUS) 57 60 63
On the other hand she can concentrate better on the match with Dokic, which is a big one for her.
Good luck Vera

Guys, can anyone tell me that what is Dokic's personal problems? I think she can be better, she is a good player & I like her.but she is not in
form lately and Vera can beat her.GO VERA!
About Kournikova, she was so talented and could be the best tennis player ever, but she didn't use her chances.she started modelling and started to
be a sex symbol so she forgot the tennis.I used to like her but it was so difficult for me to see her in this way.
Masha,I do think Vera was a lil nervous at that time.Shouting, and hitting herself,u know.I thought she might have been in trouble.

its normal for vera to shout and hit her racquet, it doesnt nessesarily mean she is nervous. schett could have started to play better. and vera just
battled.
i dont think that kournikova could have been the best player ever but she could have accoplished more. i mean shut up she was 8 in the world you try
making millions at the age of 18 and then become 8 in the world!!!
dokic had a boyfriend then he beat her in tennis so she broke up with him and then he hit her in front of her coach!!! thats all i know for now byebye
good luck vera

VERA is in quaterfinals
VERA ZVONAREVA - Elena Dokic 6-3, 6-2
Wow, what an effort! It looks like it was an awesome match, with Vera playing very good. Here are the match stats:
Vera served at 74% first serves!
Vera won 78% of first serves!!
Vera won 69% of her second serves!!!
She hit 3 aces to 0 for Dokic, and she won 24 receiving points to 12 for Dokic
I think those are pretty good stats, even for Vera.
Keep Winning VERA!!

Gosh!
I wish I could have seen that game.
I think we all felt that Vera Zvonareva was capable of defeating Dokic. According to the stats Vera played a very good game.
On the other side, Dokic seems to be sinking in a sea of problems and misadventures. Hopefully she'll recover.
What a great ride for Vera this Rogers ATT Cup has been.
good luck Vera!
