Fed Cup Final 4
Mauresmo will not play for France in the Semis and possible Final, so the door is opening really wide now for Russia, I think.

That is a huge blow for France but good news for Russia as Mauresmo has a very good record against all of the Russian squad. We'll see how it
plays out, should be interesting.

Yeah, russia will come through against Austria easily and now Mauresmo is most likely out it should be a fairly easy win cause apart from Mauresmo,i
really dont think theres anyone else in that team that can worry the russians!!

Dechy, does that ring a bell?
There’s a somebody I’m longing to see

Someone who’ll watch over me

Our fedcup captain said, that our players will be able to keep the matches tight. What an optimist!
Too bad they won´t show the matches.

True Paul. Vera had to save a match point before winning in a 3rd set tie break in Philly. Still, every match has to be taken on its merits. However,
I would be very surprised if Russia don't win this tie comfortably.

Yep, that´s true. Now our highest ranked player will be Meusburger at #173 !
Ok, doesn´t matter that match, at least Russia will have a chance against us now.

lol.....Even if she had played,i dont think vera would have made the same mistake again!!! I think she would have been determined to show her who was
boss and that the last match was just a poor performance from her!!!
Now though, its looking even easier for Russia!! Infact they may as well drop the team they've selected and put in Petrova, Bovina, Safina and
Jidkova cause theyd still win!!!
Sorry robert, now im being cruel, arent i!! lol

Nick, does England have a FEDcup-team?
Or my country? We only have Mischa Krajicek, but she can't do it all alone...
Robert has a team to cheer for, that is something to be happy about. But we, here in Groningen have a challenger-tournament now, with Sjeng Schalken
as potential winner, so that is something to be happy about too!

Very true, your girls have done well but its certainly looking bleak for next year though as there really doesnt seem to be any real talent coming out
of Austria on the female side!! Its abit the same here in the UK, our highest ranked woman is i think Elena Baltacha whos round about 150th in the
world!! Then the next highest is something like 300!!! So in answer to your question sacha,no we dont have a fed cup team, not one that i know of
anyway!! I guess we just dont have players that are good enough to make it worthwhile forming a team!!

Got that wrong, our highest ranked player is Anne Keothavong at 176!!
Then Elena Baltacha at 201, Jane O'DONOGHUE at 233 and Amanda Janes at 240!!
So really there would be nothing to gain by setting up a team, in my opinion!!

The draws are out:
R1 - S.KUZNETSOVA (RUS) vs Y.MEUSBURGER (AUT)
R2 - A.MYSKINA (RUS) vs P.WARTUSCH (AUT)
R3 - A.MYSKINA (RUS) vs Y.MEUSBURGER (AUT)
R4 - S.KUZNETSOVA (RUS) vs P.WARTUSCH (AUT)
R5 - E.LIKHOVTSEVA / V.ZVONAREVA (RUS) vs Y.MEUSBURGER / P.WARTUSCH (AUT)
I hope that Vera will get a chance to play a single on day 2 just as last time.
And Nick: your country has a fed cup team. I just read that they have reached Europe/Africa-Zone 1 now after being in Europe/Africa-Zone 2.

Yeah! We won 2 games on the first day! Hooray!
I think you´re wrong Nick. The tie is not over, because Wartusch is replaced by Kix now and Kuznetsova has to beware, because Kix is #362!
I also hope that Vera will get the chance to play a single today. Would also be good for Kuznetsova to replace Vera in the doubles then to practise
for the double match in the final.

Seems really strange that she didn't even play in the dead singles rubber. I have a feeling that you might be right Nick, but that is a real
shame. Vera deserves better treatment than that

Did you guys hear the comments that came out from Myskina yesterday about Sharapova?
Myskina said that she wouldnt play for Russia again if Sharapova got picked!! The feeling is that Zvonareva and Dementieva would refuse to play too as
they are all so close friends!!!
That would be interesting to see if it happened!!

stories coming out make for interesting reading

From what I read from Russian forum, Vera watched first match and left after it. It was annonsed that Vera had good excuse not to be on a kind of
selebration after all matches. She was talking on her cellphone all the time during the first match. She also was happy an signed lots of things fo
fans.

Vera in L.A.
I want to add a little context to Vera's play in Los Angeles. I was able to watch her match against Sharapova, because that one was televised
here in the U.S., but her earlier matches were not.
First, Vera played a LOT of tennis before getting to L.A. Immediately following the U.S. Open in NY (lost in R16), she went to Beijing (lost in
semis), then to Filderstadt (1st R loss), then to Moscow (QF loss), then to Zurich (2R loss), then to Linz (QF loss), then to Philadelphia (loss to
Mauresmo in final in 3 sets). Then to L.A. No breaks between any of these tournaments.
At Philadelphia, she played Bammer (3 sets), Dechy (3 sets), Capriati (amazingly, only 2 sets), Petrova (2nd set tie-breaker), and finally an
emotional loss to Mauresmo in 3 sets. Of course, by beating Petrova Vera qualified for the Championships, passing Jennifer and Venus.
Leaving Philly, Vera's plane was 3 hours late, and she got into L.A. at 3:00a.m. (Add more frustration to the loss).
In L.A., Vera had to play each of the first 3 days. Kuznetsova was the only other player in either group that had to play each of the first 3 days.
Vera played Svetlana on the first day, and the last tournament Kuznetsova had played prior to L.A. was Moscow, a month earlier.
The 2nd day, Vera played Mauresmo, who did not have to play the 1st day. So Amelie had an extra day to recover from Philly.
The 3rd day was against Maria. In the 2nd set, Vera saved 12 break points and recovered 2 from Sharapova (Maria was 3/15 for the set). As tired as
she was, and as negative as she was during much of the 2nd set, Vera nevertheless put up a tremendous battle.
In fact, this is the only match where I've seen Sharapova really get frustrated over mis-hits or losing points. Usually, she's got complete
control over her emotions.
Vera really should have won that 2nd set, and she had a couple chances but just couldn't quite manage it. If she can figure out how to get her
emotions to work for her instead of against her, she'll be moving far up into the top 10.
Vera did not play badly against Maria, but she did not take the chances she needed to, and Maria did.
I'm also hoping Vera gets a chance to play in the finals, but it doesn't look like it now. I think Nick is right -- they probably would
want all their players to be battle-tested going into the final.

Well put Sam.
I would imagine fatigue would have been an issue and you make a good point about Vera and her emotions. If she can channel them the right way I think
we could see Vera consistently in the top 10. Time will tell I guess

We won a set (something that Spain didn´t) and Meusburger won 6 straight games in a row against Myskina! *does a little happy dance* So we can see us
as 3rd best nation this year!
Too bad that Vera didn´t get a chance to play. I also don´t think that there a big chances now for her to play in the final.

Well if thats true that Vera did leave after the first match then it must have been something pretty serious!! I hope theres nothing serious wrong at
home or anything like that!! You wouldnt wish that on anyone!!
Its a good argument you put forward sam, oh and welcome to the forum by the way, but vera decides her own schedule, she didnt have to play all the
tournaments she did play this year so it really was her own doing that she ended up so tired!! I just hope she will choose to play a few less this
year cause it didnt really do her any good in the end!!
Vera,if your reading this, say hi to us guys! We'd really love to hear from you!
