Vera's viral infection

From http://www.verazvonareva.net/index.php?action=news&news=34

It turns out that Vera has been suffering from a viral infection all year, although it was only discovered in August. She has been left feeling chronically fatigued, which explains why she has been struggling this year. Vera is now preparing for tournaments in the fall, and we wish her a healthy return to action.

Poor Bepa - a viral infection and then the left-ankle sprain that wrecked her American hardcourt summer! :(

This explains why Bepa has been struggling particularly in hot climates this year.

I wish her a full recovery, and a great 2006.

I'm guessing Vera picked up that virus in Memphis. There was some sort of "flu" going around there durng the tournament. I got it too. You will recall that she suddenly pulled out of Indian Wells shortly afterward with a strep throat. And except for Rome, and the doubles in Stanford, she's been pretty much off her game ever since. Compounded of course by the ankle injury. Let's hope Vera's run of bad luck has now completed its course.

Vera is losing 120pts this week, which she gained at last year's China Open. The Beijing site is fairly useless, and the WTA link takes you to last year's site. I haven't seen anything yet to show that she's defending those points this year. So, given no other changes, she will drop 2 spots next week.

Congrats to the Russians on winning Fed Cup. Elena D. twice avenged her loss to Mary Pierce at the US Open.

Vera plays next week. GO BEPA!!!

By that time, I had already sensed that Bepa was struggling in hot climates this year. I believe that the virus is a result of overplaying in 2004 - especially her final push to qualify for the WTA Tour Championships.

I trust that Bepa will be more selective with her schedule of tournaments in the future.

now that explains everything. Poor Vera! Definitely not her year until now. I just hope that sheŽs all fine again soon and weŽll see when sheŽll be back on the tour.
